Exploring The Innovative Roles of Technology in Nigerian Art Music Production Scene

Abstract

This study explores how digital technology is transforming Nigerian art music production. It highlights the shift from traditional methods to digitally enhanced practices, showing how access to sound engineering tools, online platforms, and streaming services is reshaping both creative processes and employment structures in the music industry. Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on Quality Education, this study addresses that gap by examining how digital tools are integrated with indigenous musical traditions, fostering new creative directions and reconfiguring production workflows. The research emphasizes the role of technology in preserving indigenous compositions while promoting digital literacy and skill development among artists. Despite global digitization, there is limited academic focus on how Nigerian art music practitioners are adapting to this evolving landscape. Anchored on Technological Determinism Theory, which posits that technology shapes culture and creativity, through digital ethnography and qualitative content analysis. With qualitative design this paper analyzes online spaces, where composers showcase their work. Findings reveals that technology significantly enhances artistic productivity, global reach and economic sustainability. In conclusion, Nigerian composers and producers are encouraged to strategically embrace digital innovations to improve production quality, preserve cultural heritage, and remain competitive in a rapidly digitizing world.
